Our Mission

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me (Jesus),

  because the LORD has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor;

that they may be called oaks of righteousness,

  the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

They shall build up the ancient ruins;

  they shall raise up the former devastations;

they shall restore the ruined cities,

  the devastations of many generations.

(Isaiah 61:1-4)

The vision of The Oaks Church is rooted in Isaiah chapter 61. The prophet Isaiah is giving the people of Israel a hope that can only come from the Messiah that would heal all that the Fall ruined. He (Jesus) is the one that would say, “the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because He has annointed me to bring good news to the poor (61:1). The verses that follow are surprising. God actually decides to invite the poor that have been given good news to join Him on His mission. He will ”plant them as Oaks of Righteousness to display His glory and to rebuild cities” (61:4).

We believe that is the call that God has placed on The Oaks Church. God has planted us in the city to bring restoration through the Gospel: spiritually, socially, culturally, and eternally.

Restoration occurs in two ways: in us & through us. As those that have received the good news of Jesus, we are daily being restored and conformed to the image of Christ. Restoration also takes place through us. God uses our lives as tools in His hands to restore a broken world. We are simultaneously objects and agents of God’s restoration.

We believe that God has created all things to display His beauty throughout the world. He chose to have a special relationship with man and woman because He made them in His own image. Unfortunately, that relationship was broken. Sin entered the world and we have been feeling its effects ever since. We live in a world full of violence, pain, and confusion.

It is in the middle of this chaos, that God sent His Son, Jesus. Jesus came preaching a message of restoration. All who follow Him are made new. Jesus laid down His life as a payment for the sins that humanity has committed. Not only did He die for those that He loved, but He rose again proving that He really does have the power to rescue them!

Now, each person that has placed their trust in the finished work of Christ brings restoration to the world we live in. Jesus said, "as the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." The Oaks Church is committed to bringing restoration to Cincinnati and the world through the Gospel, the good news of Jesus' rescue.

Restoration: Heaven to earth

In the model prayer of Jesus to His followers, there is a phrase that is often overlooked and misunderstood. Jesus prayed, "Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven." Unfortunately, it seems like many followers of Christ are spending their lives in the wrong direction! They seem to be watching the clock tick until they can be in a better place.

The prayer of Jesus shapes the way that our church spends our lives right now. We believe that Jesus has placed us here to do His will on earth as it in heaven. We want to be a place of refuge in Cincinnati. We want to bring healing to broken relationships. We want to feed the downtrodden and care for the orphan. We believe that this can only happen when the good news of Jesus' rescue is at work in our lives and through our lives. The Oaks Church is committed to bringing restoration to Cincinnati and the world: spiritually, socially, culturally, and eternally. Every day we get to bring a little piece of heaven to earth through our words and deeds.
